Taung Kalat, ‘Palace of the Gods’ in the Top of Dead Volcanoes

taung-kalatIncredible. Among the world heritage sites located in Burma, Taung Kalat is a fascinating one. Imagine, this Buddhist monastery was built on top of a volcano that has died.

Many people call the hill where the monastery is built is Mount Popa, but they are wrong for Popa volcano is higher than the hill where the Taung Kalat stand. That said, the hill where the monastery stood was once the volcano, but now no longer active. Although looks are not too high, but it takes great strength to get on to the top. Because you can imagine how great the builders of the monastery.

According to the local community, Nat, 37 gods, lived in Taung Kalat. This belief could be because it was far away at the top, from a distance looked like a building in heaven. Especially when the fog descended and obscure part of the building so that only a few peak are visible, really like a palace in the clouds.

Ascend Taung Kalat, you will definitely meet some cute monkey, but be careful, they are wild creatures and tend to grab whatever you lay on the ground, even before you have a chance to blink.
